At Altais Medical Group,, we believe great care starts with connection. We sat down with Physician Assistant Kassie Kao, PA-C, to learn more about her approach to care, what inspires her, and what patients can expect when working with her.

What inspired you to become a clinician?
When I was young, I helped care for my grandmother by bringing her medications and water. She was always so appreciative, and those moments stayed with me. They taught me how meaningful it is to care for others. Later, working as an EMT reinforced that feeling and confirmed that I wanted to be there for patients when they need it most.
How would you describe your approach to caring for patients?
My approach is patient-centered and collaborative. I believe in listening carefully, answering questions, and making sure patients feel informed and involved in their care decisions.
What are you especially passionate about in your work?
I’m especially passionate about managing chronic conditions like high cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension. Addressing these early can help patients live longer, healthier lives.
Do you have a particular patient population you enjoy working with?
I have a strong interest in working with older adults. My grandmother had a big influence on my path into healthcare, and that continues to shape my interest in geriatric care.
What does “patient-centered care” mean to you?
It means truly listening to patients, understanding their concerns, and making sure they feel supported. I want patients to leave their visit feeling better than when they came in.
What do you want patients to know about working with you?
I strive to treat every patient with the same respect, care, and compassion that I would give my own family.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I enjoy arts and crafts like crocheting, and I’ve recently taken up rock climbing and running. I also enjoy relaxing at home and playing video games.
Anything people might be surprised to learn about you?
I speak some Vietnamese and Spanish. While I’m not fluent, I’ve found that patients really appreciate when I make the effort to communicate in their language, and I’m always working to improve.
In one sentence, how would you describe yourself as a clinician?
I’m a compassionate, patient-centered clinician who values listening, building trust, and helping patients feel supported in their care.
