Q&A with Tatyana Kovalevskij, PA-C: Thoughtful, Patient-Centered Care in Oakland

At Altais Medical Group in Oakland, we believe great care starts with connection. We sat down with Physician Assistant Tatyana Kovalevskij, PA-C, to learn more about her approach to care, what inspires her, and what patients can expect when they work with her.

What inspired you to become a clinician?

Medicine has always intrigued me. I’ve always been fascinated by how the human body works, and I wanted to use that knowledge to help people live longer, healthier lives. That curiosity, combined with a desire to make a meaningful impact, led me to become a provider.

How would you describe your approach to caring for patients?

My approach is patient-centered and collaborative. I believe in teamwork—working together with my patients to understand their concerns and develop a plan that works best for them.

What are you especially passionate about in your work?

I’m especially interested in mental health, women’s health, and cardiopulmonary care. These are areas where I feel I can make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.

You’ve mentioned an interest in research. Can you tell us more?

Research is what helps medicine advance. Staying informed and incorporating evidence-based practices into care is very important to me, as it allows me to provide the most up-to-date and effective treatments for my patients.

What does “patient-centered care” mean to you?

It means listening without judgment and making sure each patient feels comfortable and supported. I want my patients to feel heard and to know they can always reach out if something is bothering them.

What do you want patients to know about working with you?

I’m easygoing and nonjudgmental. If something is concerning you, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’ll work through it together.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my family. We love relaxing with a movie and popcorn, as well as exploring nature and going fishing.

Anything people might be surprised to learn about you?

I love history, especially ancient history. In undergrad, I double majored in Biology and Near Eastern Studies. I also enjoy reading historical fiction—my favorite is The Source by James Michener.

In one sentence, how would you describe yourself as a clinician?

I’m a patient-centered, compassionate clinician dedicated to blending evidence-based medicine with individualized care.

Now welcoming patients in Oakland.
